Romanticized nature scenes in anime

In Japanese anime, nature is depicted as a romanticized backdrop where the plot unfolds. Rainy days are clear and crystalline and peaceful, not wet and gross and gray. Greenery is scenic and worthy of contemplative admiration, rather than an environment which is polluted and littered and ignored by the average urban passersby. In Davis’ words, I would classify the romanticization of nature in anime film as a “code,” or a grammatical way of interpretation, which is unique to the medium.
