Cookout: Food-themed artwork by Zach Horn

Zach Horn uses a combination of paint and physical objects to create food-themed artworks for his recent Cookout exhibition. For example, his work “Breakfast” (shown in the featured image) includes actual spoons at the corners, though it is mostly oil and acrylic. I thought that the Cookout artwork was very visually interesting, and it felt somewhat abstract and disconnected from reality despite the fact that it literally is representational. The colors, shapes, and patterns used all seemed very deliberate, and the additional objects included add another dimension as well. These works also reminded me of our recent class exercise in creating visual representations of food.

Here is the link to the artist’s website, and here is the link to the post discussing his exhibition.

The shapes of the different slices of bread, plus he colors, spacing, and arrangement of this work all seem very deliberate.
