“What Does It Look Like When a City Returns to Its Senses?”: Photographing NY

This photo series by the New York Times displays taste by OK McClausland, touch by Tess Ayano, sight by Dane Manary, smell by Gabriela Bhaskar, and sound by OK McClausland. Each image in this series elicited the senses that they were portraying in a way I don’t think words could. Even small acts, like sharing popcorn, became forbidden, but no longer — we are ‘returning’ to our ‘senses’. For me, these photos encapsulate all the aspects of life, especially as a young person living in Philadelphia, that I yearn for during the pandemic.
