The Sad Cats of Our Childhood

There is an artist known as @soaprunsfast on Tik Tok and Twitter who creates these paintings of sad cats in heartbreaking situations. The selected piece depicts a teary-eyed cat, alone inside a cabinet, perhaps looking out at his friends having fun without him. The caption states “he thought he was really good at hide and seek, turns out they just forgot he was playing.” I appreciate the artist’s ability to create an upsetting story without directly stating it within the painting (of course, the caption is a great supplement). A lot of her pieces are projections of exclusion and loneliness many people have faced during their childhood, small, perhaps repressed forgotten memories of solitude.
