Emoji Exhibit at MoMA

After discussing the history and evolution of icons, I became interested on the reception of Emojis in the world of art. Interestingly enough, in 2016 the Museum of Modern Art in New York City featured an exhibit on Emojis. However, this did not sit well with art connoisseurs as they voiced their disappointment with MoMA – saying that it resembled “a teacher trying to twerk”. Nevertheless, I did feel like MoMA aimed to pay tribute to the icon revolution that changed the world of digital design and user experience (UX) through their Emoji exhibit. Definitely a hot topic as Emojis continue to evolve into more diverse and inclusive icons for everyday users.
