Debora Moore’s Glass Sculptures

The Ikebana blog post reminded me of sculptures I saw recently at the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC. Debra Moore’s glass tree sculptures follow the 4 seasons, balance strength and lightness. The trees are growing out of rocks and are entirely glass, seeming to defy gravity. Coming from an engineering background, I was originally drawn to the trees out of a more academic curiosity — how do they balance? how do they not break? Upon closer inspection, the attention to detail and whimsical shapes quickly drew me into the glass garden.

Highly recommend the Renwick! It’s free since it is part of the Smithsonian and DC isn’t a bad day trip from Philly.
